FTP Client

In order to analyze log files you first need to aquire them.
Normally they can be located:
 - On your local machine, if you are running the web server on your computer.
 - On your remote web server.

In the first case you don't need to use any ftp clients at all. You simply enter the correct log path in the Sites tab.

If your server is located on a remote computer we recommend you take the following steps:
1. Use a traditional ftp client like CuteFTP to locate your log file on the remote machine. Systematically you'll locate the remote path (for example, /W3SVC1212/yourlog.log) to your log file.
2. When you know the remote path, your server name, user name, user password, then you can start using our ftp client on daily basis. Each time when you need to download the log file, press the Download button and the program will automatically download and update your log file. Don't forget to change your log path each month.

Parameters used in our FTP Client:

  • Host is a name of your ftp server. For example ftp.yoursite.com
  • User name and password are used in order to connect to your ftp server. It could be different from the username/password for your web server.
  • Remote log path specifies location of your log file on the remote ftp server. For example, /W3SVC1212/yourlog.log
  • Local log path specifies the full path to the location where your log file will be saved. For example, c:\logs\yourlog.log
  • Port is the port of the ftp server. Normally it's 21, and you don't need to change it.
  • Passive connection mode: Unless you have 426 error code when connecting to your ftp server, this parameter should be checked ON.
