Find and Replace If...

Post by DJ »

I am evaluating the AFR tool and I have two columns in an excel file in which I would like to compare strings. If one of hte names in the first column is not in the second column, then add it to the second coulumn... the trick is that I am not searching normalized data... examples below

first column-----second column---note of action to happen
Smith -----------Jack Jones--------first column name an add
Smith -----------Jane Smith--------not an add
Smith, Long-----Jack Jones--------first column names are both are adds
Smith, Long-----Jane Smith--------second name in first column is an add
Smith, Long-----Same Long--------first name is an add

This may be too complecated to do with AFR? I had to use hyphens to indicate columns... sorry messy. Ideas on how to do this most welcomed.

So: what is resulting second column?
You said "add to second column" but it would be nice to see where should it be added.
BTW do you have one file like that or many files to "normalize"?
Kind regards,
