I notice that clicking Cancel from the log in screen quits the entire application instead of going back to the previous window. Is this expected behavior?

In fact it's correct. After reading your post we thought that it's was
an issue. But it's correct. If you already made Log Off you cannot
just press Cancel button and login again. It's it not secure.
