Loving the trial.

Can't seem to be able to add a modifier. I get this message:

The field 'Modifier.modcatid' cannot contain a Null value because the Required property for this field is set to True. Enter a value in the this field.

No matter what I try I can't enter a number in the Number field.

Which version do you use? See menu Help - About.

Version 4.7.0.1126 (Trial Version)

You'll have to excuse me as I'm normally a Mac guy. Where are the configuration and database files?
